This Singapore startup is developing ChatGPT for the health and wellness industry (Q&A)
Singapore-based artificial intelligence company HELP YOUwhich provides health and wellness professionals with advanced artificial intelligence tools, hopes to raise $10 million in its seed funding round.
Built by a doctor for healthcare professionals and students, HELF said it provides access to clear, evidence-based information from large amounts of medical data, in seconds. It also helps inform clinical and research decisions, allowing healthcare professionals to focus on their patients.
“We are starting to monetize our services and are also looking for seed funding. We are looking at $10 million to take our product to the next stage,” said HELF AI founder Dr. Reid Lim. TNGlobal in an interview.
“To our knowledge, there is no other proprietary healthcare-specific language model (LLM) that focuses on the entire health and wellness space,” he said. “Our moat and competitive advantage is our ever-expanding knowledge base.”
HELF currently offers a range of AI-powered solutions designed to assist clients and professionals across the health and wellness spectrum. Last week, HELF announced that its app is now available on Google Play worldwide.
"To date, our team has successfully developed HELF, which is the core engine of our healthcare knowledge based on billions of clinical words. Leveraging the success of the HELF-LLM engine, we are able to develop API endpoints that startups and organizations can use to further develop their health and wellness solutions. Additionally, we are fine-tuning HELF to create wellness personas," said Dr. Lim.
“Our first project is a Beauty AI Consultant – KIT. It is based on advanced machine learning models, including natural language processing capabilities, to effectively analyze and interpret medical literature and user queries,” he added.
Dr. Lim said the technology is based on advanced machine learning models trained on a corpus of billions of medically relevant training data, so that HELF can analyze and interpret medical literature and effectively understand unstructured user queries.
According to him, less than a month after its release, HELF has already achieved an accuracy of nearly 84 percent when compared to a sample of the United States Medical Licensure Examination (USMLE) Phase 1.
Dr. Lim is a physician and the pioneering founder of HELF AI. He hopes to revolutionize healthcare through the transformative power of artificial intelligence. Focusing on deep learning through computer vision and LLM, his work strives to elevate global healthcare standards to be more equitable, efficient, and safe. He also hopes to bridge the gap between technology and medicine, paving the way for a healthier future for all.
“Our biggest challenge in developing this product is the ever-increasing technical challenges in modern machine learning, but our biggest problem is that we’re in a completely new space, and because there’s no precedent, it’s hard to get partners on board because they might not even know what they’re looking for,” he added.
In the interview, Dr. Lim also shared his perspective on how advanced AI tools can help professionals in the health and wellness industries, the company’s goals, vision and mission, its business model, among others.
Here are some edited excerpts from the interview:
Why are advanced AI tools needed for the health and wellness industry?
Advanced AI tools like HELF are critical to transforming the health and wellness industry, as they address several critical challenges.
First, HELF improves the accuracy of diagnoses and personalizes patient treatment plans. Using advanced deep learning techniques, HELF analyzes complex medical data and identifies patterns that humans might miss, thereby improving the safety and quality of healthcare.
Second, HELF streamlines the care process. It augments the invaluable human workforce by assisting and automating various tasks during the EHR experience. This support allows healthcare professionals to focus more on direct patient care, thereby increasing the efficiency of healthcare delivery.
HELF also serves as a trusted assistant for clinicians, including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals. Trained on vast amounts of clinical data, HELF serves as a repository of clinical insights, wisdom, and references, always ready to offer guidance and support to healthcare professionals.
Ultimately, these capabilities contribute to more equitable healthcare. By standardizing high-quality care and democratizing access to advanced diagnostic tools, HELF helps close the gap in healthcare disparities. This progress leads to safer, more efficient, and universally high-quality care, transcending geographic and socioeconomic barriers.
What kind of products or solutions does HELF provide now? What kind of technology was used to develop them?
HELF currently offers a range of AI-based solutions designed to assist clients and professionals across the full spectrum of health and wellness.
To date, our team has successfully developed HELF, our core healthcare knowledge engine that is based on billions of clinical words. Leveraging the success of the HELF-LLM engine, we are able to develop API endpoints that startups and organizations can use to further develop their own health and wellness solutions. Additionally, we are fine-tuning HELF to create wellness personas.

How many products do you have now? Who is your target audience? Only doctors?
HELF has developed two products: HELF (Healthcare AI) and KIT (Beauty AI). We have also developed the APIs associated with these two models for agnostic use to support other companies and enterprises.
Our target audience is anyone interested in or connected to the health and wellness industry, so pretty much everyone.
What opportunities do you see in developing this solution?
a. How is HELF different from other products?
HELF offers a more clinically relevant and accurate experience than other large language models like ChatGPT. In less than a month since its release, HELF has already achieved an accuracy of nearly 84 percent when compared to a USMLE Step 1 sample. Our team will work hard to help HELF become even more comprehensive and competent.
b. Are there other similar companies that provide these services? What is your competitive advantage? What are the challenges you see in developing and promoting these products?
To our knowledge, there are no other proprietary healthcare-specific language models that focus on the entire health and wellness industry.
Our strength and competitive advantage is our ever-expanding knowledge base.
Our biggest challenge in developing this product is the ever-increasing technical challenges in modern machine learning, but our biggest problem is that we are in a completely new space, and because there is no precedent, it is difficult to engage partners because they may not even know what they are looking for.
What stage is HELF in? Are you looking for funding? If so, how much and for what? Who are your current investors?
We are starting to monetize our services and are also looking for seed funding. We are looking at $10 million to take our product to the next stage. We do not have any investors yet.
What would be your business model? How do you get revenue? Subscription base? Freemium?
We will offer free access to all accounts, subject to usage and feature limitations. Users can unlock greater productivity by subscribing. HELF will also become a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company. We are preparing our APIs for external services to leverage for a fee. We are confident that these monetization routes are extremely profitable.
What are the goals, vision and mission of HELF?
Our goals include democratizing access to medical knowledge, making it more accessible and usable for healthcare professionals around the world. Our vision is to revolutionize the standard of care through artificial intelligence, and our mission is to provide tools that support clinical decisions with accuracy and speed, across the entire health and wellness industry.
How big is your team? Could you tell us a little about your background?
Our team consists of doctors, healthcare professionals and AI software engineers. I, as the founder, am a doctor with experience in AI development, having founded two AI technology companies focused on raising global healthcare standards. My educational background includes a focus on healthcare technology and management.
